Gun Control:
Gun control is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians.* There is solid evidence that gun violence is a very prominent issue in America, and we need more laws to help limit this problem. Already, by September 30th, there have been 486 mass shootings (incidents where 4 or more people are shot in one location at the same time) in the United States.** Even recently there was a shooting in Lockport where a college student was murdered. She had a long life ahead of her, but her life was taken too soon. There have been children that were murdered at the hands of someone who should not possess a gun. Whether they got took it from a family member, or they got it illegally. However, America needs to find a better way to protect their people from this horrific problem. There needs to be stronger gun control in order to protect the lives of the children in America.
For this project, a photo of young children, maybe in elementary school, will be used to demonstrate how important gun control is. The image will be used to target the emotions of the audience. It will be used to show that we need gun control in order to protect the youth of America.

Second Amendment:
The Bill of Rights is a key component of the United States Constitution. The Bill of Rights consists of ten amendments that guarantee the rights and freedoms to the people. The amendments add to the Constitution specific guarantees of personal freedoms and rights, clear limitations on the government's power in judicial and other proceedings, and explicit declarations that all powers not specifically granted to the U.S. Congress by the Constitution are reserved for the states or the people.* The Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights protects the individuals right to keep and bear arms, which has become a very controversial topic. The Second Amendment reads: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This right is constantly being misjudged and is under scrutiny for political reasons. Gun control is constantly being argued about between Americans, and gun control is arguably, taking away the rights of the people. This is clearly going against what the United States Constitution stated. It is clear from the Constitution that the right to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed. Therefore, gun control is considered to be unconstitutional, and is harmful to the people of America.

The pro-2A issue is a highly contentious topic all over America, and especially here in New York. Right out of the gate, it should be noted that the phrase, "Stand your ground" has legal meaning that pertains to gun control measures that most pro-2A advocates do NOT oppose. "Stand your ground" refers to when it may or may not be appropriate to use lethal force from a firearm when an intruder has broken into another person's house. Many states have a "duty to retreat," rather than a "stand your ground" law that restricts the use of lethal force in such cases as minor trespassing, which most pro-2A advocates, again, do not oppose. "Protect Our Rights" is the best headline presented here, as it gets to the heart of the pro-2A debate - the protection of constitutional freedoms.
ReplyDeleteAs far as design elements are concerned, the use of the American flag is very acutely done - most pro-2A advocates have a heightened sense of patriotism, so it is expedient to use such imagery. Thumbnail 5 uses the greatest blend of imagery and heading.
Constructive criticism might lean toward making the American flag the entire background of the flier and using semi-transparent text boxes to frame the heading and body-text. The use of a contentiously restricted firearm brings attention to the specific debate at hand and is a strong element in the design.
